Located in the Tonsley Innovation Precinct, Tonsley Technical College is planned to open in 2025.

The Australian Science and Mathematics School (ASMS) will partner with this technical college. It will provide a pathway to employment for students to complete a VET qualification and develop workplace skills, as well as completing their SACE.

We are creating detailed plans to prepare for the technical college to open.

What you can study

Tonsley Technical College provides industry training programs in:

  • Advanced manufacturing and engineering
  • Automotive and energy
  • Building and construction
  • Health and social support (including a pathway to nursing and allied health).

These industry specialisations were chosen for the important role they play in our community, both now and into the future. There is high demand for skilled workers in these areas across our state, in Australia and around the world – giving you a world of career opportunities.

Each industry training program will cover:

  • technical skills
  • core skills and capabilities
  • work experience and workplace learning
  • employability skills
  • career education
  • student support and mentoring.

You’ll study VET qualifications, while you complete your SACE.

All of your learning will be centred around your industry specialisation, giving you the skills employers need and putting you in the best position to get a job after you graduate.

RTO and employer partners

Registered training organisations (RTOs) and employers in relevant industries play a key role in developing and delivering our industry training programs.

Tonsley Technical College’s employer partners include group training organisations, the Motor Trade Association (MTA) and the Master Builders Association (MBA), and Australian submarine company ASC,  with additional partners to be announced in the future.

Location

Tonsley Technical College will be located in the Tonsley Innovation Precinct and will be built in tandem with Flinders University’s Factory of the Future.

The Factory of the Future is an industry focused research and capability-building facility. The facility offers South Australian companies the opportunity to accelerate the uptake and diffusion of advanced skills and technologies. The Factory of the Future aims to foster innovation, boost productivity and increase international competitiveness.

Eligibility and enrolment

We’ve begun developing the eligibility criteria and enrolment process for the technical college.

The technical college will accept applications from both public and private schools.

The design of the technical colleges aims to:

  • replicate the look, feel and flow of industry workplace environments
  • create maximum flexibility for the use of practical spaces on a day-to-day basis.
